The Cro-magnon race vanished from the face of the world right after the last ice age.  That was nearly 10,000 years ago.  They were an advanced race with gods, technology, religion & magic.  They invented teleportation magic and gates that allowed one to traverse great distances, and even other worlds.  Their ships were similar to those of the Cloud Giants in that they floated across the sky in clouds of lightning, traveling great distances in a matter of hours.   Legend has it that they were enslaved by an alien race of supernatural serpents and were never been heard from again.  

Recently, one of the magical gates that had remained sealed all these millennia has been found ajar.  Its magical enchantments having apparently faded after all these years, allowing access to the fabled Serpent City deep within the mountain.  It is saturated in darkness and decorated in fine stone work as is visible at the entrance to the first cavernous chamber.  You are the first adventurers to dare enter this realm of constructs and magical guardians.  Your mission: find whoever opened the gate, discover any danger this may represent and most of all, find out what happed to the Cro-magnon.
